Leverkusen is going like clockwork: Xabi Alonso’s team also finds a way to beat Hoffenheim.

Bayer Leverkusen has forgotten how to lose. Whether in the Europa League or in the league – the team of the successful coach Xabi Alonso (42) always finds ways to avoid impending bankruptcies and instead achieve important victories on the way to the long-awaited title (latest victory: DFB Cup in 1992 season /93) to join the Werkself.

The win on Saturday evening against Hoffenheim (2-1) is a special masterpiece. Because while the team with Swiss leader Granit Bayer’s lead over Bayern at the top of the table now stands at 13 points. The door to the first championship title in the club’s history is now wide open.

Should Dortmund watch the championship celebration?

There are still seven matchdays to go in the Bundesliga. This means: even if Bayern Munich wins all the remaining matches, Leverkusen can start popping the corks at the end of April. There are still nine points missing from the championship title.

The game plan means Leverkusen could win the title away from home in Dortmund (April 21, 5.30pm). A guest in the team that had repeatedly, sometimes dramatically, failed against Bayern in the battle for the championship in recent years.

To achieve this, Leverkusen must fulfill his duties against Union Berlin (away on April 6, 3:30 PM) and against Werder Bremen (at home on April 14, 5:30 PM). If Bayern itself loses more points, the title could even be secured against Bremen.

In between, Alonso’s team still has hot matches in the DFB Cup and the Europa League. Bayer is also heading for a triumph there. The club has not lost in 39 competitive matches in all competitions. No wonder that just 22 years after the birth of “Vizekusen” (in 2002 Leverkusen finished second in the league and lost the final in the DFB Cup and the Champions League) Leverkusen fans secretly dream of a treble this season.
