Gregor Kobel has left the Nati camp to prepare for the next Bundesliga matches in Dortmund. The BVB goalkeeper arrived in La Manga slightly injured after briefly missing the 3-1 win against Frankfurt (3-1) this weekend. In February, Kobel injured his adductor muscles – and apparently he never really recovered from that.

While Kobel is missing, the goalkeeping trio Yann Sommer, Yvon Mvogo and David von Ballmoos are working on their fitness and coordination. Symbolic of the hierarchy, Sommer is also at the top of the podium when it comes to ball feeling and balance. The Inter goalkeeper excels at juggling three tennis balls on one leg, while the other two show obvious deficits in performing the circus act.

Despite training, advertising appearances and media appointments, the players in La Manga have little time for personal hobbies. Renato Steffen, Remo Freuler and Silvan Widmer took the opportunity to play a round of golf on their free Wednesday afternoon. “Unfortunately, we do this far too rarely,” says Widmer, who is barely eligible to play with a handicap of 40.

A woman again. Giorgio Contini is not the only new face in the national team in La Manga. With physiotherapist Petra Platteau, a woman is on the staff of the men’s A-team for the first time in a long time. De Basel, who has his own practice, is part of the six-person medical team and will also be present at the European Championships in Germany.
