«I had very good conversations with Murat. He is our number 1 candidate and we are interested in working together in the future. There was talk about a contract extension, but Yakin’s wish is that we only speak to each other after the European Championship, because our focus is entirely on the European Championship. When he started with us he had a six-month contract. He is not afraid of being judged on performance. But it is also an opportunity for him and a risk for the association. Because if he is successful, it will cost the association dearly. But that’s just how professional football is. One thing is clear: we will have a good coach at the European Championships. And we also have a good coach after the European Championship. In 2021, Vladimir Petkovic still had a two-year contract, but I still had to look for a new coach within a few days.
