It’s finished! Lara Gut-Behrami is very relieved.

Lara Gut-Behrami

About giant slalom ball: “This ball is completely different from Super-G. That was always my favorite discipline. The giant is the basis, that’s what I’ve always said. If you are ahead, you have it technically under control. And I always really wanted to achieve that, I always wanted to ski well. It always bothered me when I was called a speedster. Because I wanted to be at a high level technically. I’ve always said it would be great to one day participate in the giant ball. Because that means that you are constantly on the move and working with the best in skiing. I am proud that I have achieved this.”

Comparison with the World Cup title: «You can’t compare the feelings. But the giant slalom was always important. I knew that if I was strong there, I would also be good in the other disciplines. It wasn’t until yesterday that I realized how much I wanted this. Normally I think about skiing, but today I thought about the ball. I wanted to win this and was nervous. Those were the worst runs of the entire winter. But I thought to myself, I just have to get to the finish line somehow.

About the overall World Cup: «There are many things that always motivate me to become even better. I have come such a long way since 2016. I developed further as an athlete, I wanted to achieve success. I always put pressure on myself because I thought I had to get better. And often with a crowbar. So I realized that I had to do many things differently, that my path had to be different. Since then I have had more in life, a different life. I am driven by joy. I had lost what it meant to me to ski and develop. I’m really enjoying it now, I’m having fun again. I will take that with me for the rest of my life.”

Michelle Gisin

About Gut Behrami: “It’s incredibly beautiful. Lara is dominating this season – incredibly. Much respect for that, I don’t know how she did it. To be able to achieve this level of performance so consistently in all three disciplines, you can only take your hat off.”

About her appearance: «My performance can be assessed positively. The first run went quite well, in the second run I made a mistake and then I noticed that I had lost some speed. I lost quite a bit of time there. But I am at the finish line and I know where I fell behind. It’s really cool that I can drive the giant again. I notice that confidence is returning. My season was definitely better than the previous one. All in all, it is an important step that I have taken. Now I have to persevere and let the restored confidence grow even further.”

Camille Rast

About their performance: «My goal today was to finish in the points. I barely managed that. It wasn’t my best giant slalom, I wasn’t 100 percent ready in my head. It was a bit weird because the slalom was first. I’m fit and have no pain, that’s good. I still need some more time and training to be as confident in the giant slalom as in the slalom. But it keeps getting better. I am happy with that.”

Alpine boss Hans Flatscher

First words to Gut-Behrami: «First of all, I congratulated Lara and briefly mentioned a few things. I am very happy that she achieved this with such a great performance. My wife Sonja Nef was always a role model for her. It is a special story: 22 years ago I was there for my wife’s last triumph.

About Gut Behrami: «The starting position in the giant slalom was good, but not easy. When you hit the gas and retire, everyone asks you: what did you do? She solved it brutally intelligently. And to triumph in the overall World Cup requires a lot of consistent and intelligent work. Only a few succeed. Lara has now achieved this, she is one of the greats.”

The other ball chances: “If she also wins the downhill and super-G ratings, it would be an incredible story. It is theoretically possible. But just like with the balls, you have to do it first. There are so many factors at play. We have to keep our focus on it and only let go when she has the ball in her hand.”
