The mood at FC Luzern is not great at the moment. The four defeats in the last five games have left their mark. Not only in terms of the rankings, where they are outside the Championship group for the first time since matchday 3. “It is clear that the world is not looking rosy at the moment,” emphasizes trainer Mario Frick (49) in an interview with Blick after the first training of the week.
In line with this, after the embarrassing defeat against SLO, voices emerged that there was a crackling feeling in the dressing room. Just like last year around the same time, when it was said that there were disagreements with current Schalke goalkeeper Marius Müller (30). But this time too, Frick calms things down. “It is always the case that voices arise when things are not going well. But everything falls within the framework and friction is part of it,” he assures.
At the same time, Frick says that a discussion took place on Monday. “We tackled it hard.” What exactly? The Liechtensteiner describes: “We have to act more as a team again and be happier with each other’s successes. That has distinguished us for a long time and we have to get that back.”
Leader Pius Dorn (27) played the same tune immediately after the final whistle on Sunday. “Now not everyone is allowed to do their own thing,” the German warned. After Monday’s meeting, Frick sees no danger of the team falling apart. He is much more confident that the team will respond immediately.
As usual, Frick chooses clear words. And he stops at no one, not even at himself: ‘Everyone has a duty. Starting with us in the technical staff.” Now you can see who is made of which wood. “In these kinds of situations you have to show your true character and you can grow from that. Now it’s up to us to move forward and let the team catch up.”
Lucerne’s first chance to put words into action is next Sunday against Servette. Everything is the team of the hour and that has more than a say in the title battle with YB. So the worst possible opponent? On the contrary, says Frick. “Absolutely the best opponent that could come.”
