Celestini quickly identified the culprit of the defeat. But the fault is not one of his inferior defenders, but himself. Celestini: “If nothing works, like today, then it’s the coach’s fault.” Analyzing the game doesn’t help much. “But we have to think about what we did wrong this week and what needs to change next week,” said the FCB coach.

Despite self-criticism, Celestini also holds his team accountable. “You can imagine what the coach said during the break. He wasn’t as friendly as usual,” Frei said of his coach’s speech during the break.

However, this has no effect whatsoever. Just seconds after the restart, YB left back Hadjam made it 4-0, and Monteiro scored Bern’s fifth goal with a dream goal. The fact that FCB got a consolation goal from Barry was thanks to a goal from Camara.

“It’s heading for relegation”

The only good news for FCB is that Lausanne also lost to Servette two hours earlier. However, the situation in the table cellar has not become more comfortable. Especially because the team from Basel now also has a significantly worse goal difference (-11) than their relegation rivals Lausanne (-7) and standings (-3).

“It must be clear to everyone that we are heading towards relegation,” Frei once again sounds the alarm. “If a player feels like I have to explain it to him again, I’m happy to do so.”

And Celestini also says: “The barrage and the relegation zone have been in my head since my first day in Basel.” So the coach knows what happened. Only his players don’t seem to have heard the alarm anymore.
