Does he stay or does he go? The future of coach Fabio Celestini (48) has been a hotly debated topic in Basel for weeks.
Although FCB has now returned to the barrage, Celestini has certainly put forward arguments for an extension of his expiring contract. When the Lausanne native signed up at the end of October, the Bebbi were still at the bottom of the table. FCB is now 15 points away from an immediate relegation zone.
Now a breakthrough in contract negotiations could be imminent. “We absolutely agree on everything,” Celestini announced before Sunday’s game against YB. The Lausanne resident promises: “There will be news soon.”
The end of contract poker between FCB and Celestini? Two weeks ago it sounded from both sides as if an agreement was just a formality. FCB boss David Degen (41) announced in the fan podcast “Yyneruggt” that Celestini would only sign a new working paper if he could play for titles with FCB again in the future.
However, the question is more than whether FCB can attack with the current team next season. After three defeats in four games, including a cup-out, doubts about Celestini have also increased. Apparently not big enough to end the collaboration in the summer.
