In Munich the tree is on fire. On Friday, Bayern again dropped points against Freiburg (2:2), and the gap to leader Leverkusen is now ten points. The last five competitive matches resulted in only one victory: the first titleless season since 2012! At the end of February, Bayern bosses pulled the cord and announced the departure of coach Thomas Tuchel (50). From the summer onwards, the record champions and Tuchel will go their separate ways. Until then, the German must remain on the sidelines. At least that was the plan, but now it could all be over sooner.

There is no agreement between Bayern’s bosses

The eighth finals in the Champions League against Lazio Rome on Tuesday evening (from 9 p.m. in the Blick live ticker) is a kind of job final for Tuchel. To qualify for the quarter-finals, Bayern must reverse a 0-1 defeat in the first leg against the Romans. If he were to leave the premier class, an immediate divorce from Tuchel “would not be ruled out”, writes the “kicker”.

According to “Bild”, the bosses on Säbener Strasse were “torn back and forth”. Accordingly, there is internal disagreement over whether a divorce from Tuchel would make sense at all. Because with a ten-point deficit in the Bundesliga, leaving the DFB Cup and dropping out of the premier class, the ruined season would already be over. Furthermore, bosses would then be faced with the daunting task of finding an interim coach while also looking for a long-term solution for the summer.

Tuchel himself does not want to know anything about a job final against Lazio. “These considerations do not come from me,” he made clear at the press conference prior to the match in Munich. But the 50-year-old also says: “I don’t know what others in the club think.” But you can be sure that no one has more ambition to win the game than himself.

This is how the turnaround must succeed

But how does Tuchel want to make up for the deficit from the first leg and crack the stubborn Romans? “We need more structure and must be more persistent in the duels.” He also calls for more disciplined players and more concentration in the passing game. “Tomorrow every minute counts,” the coach says belligerently.

Bayern must also return to their old strengths offensively. Not a single shot was scored on target in the first leg against Lazio. In a similar performance, the star-studded team had to say goodbye to the premier class on Tuesday evening. And maybe also from their trainer.
