Celebrities take over football clubs: ski legend Vonn becomes part of an illustrious circle

Lindsey Vonn joins the Utah Royals.

New task for Lindsey Vonn (39): The American ski legend joins the Utah Royals football club. “I’m very happy to support women, especially women in Utah,” Vonn said in a video message.

Vonn participates in the investor group Global Football Holdings, which already owns shares in Bundesliga club FC Augsburg and Premier League club Crystal Palace. Join now the Utah Royals, who played in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) from 2018 to 2020. After a hiatus that saw the rights traded to Kansas City, the Royals will return to action in the NWSL for the season beginning March 16.

The English football legend is one of the founders of MLS club Inter Miami. Since the arrival of Lionel Messi, Miami has been one of the most popular teams in the US.

Le Bron James

Through his partnership with Fenway Sports Group, owner of Liverpool FC, the LA Lakers basketball superstar became a partner of the traditional English club. Together with RedBird Capital, he also joined AC Milan in 2022. Rapper Drake is one of the passive investors in this acquisition.

Will Ferrell

The American actor has been involved with the MLS club Los Angeles FC since 2016, which has also owned the Grasshoppers for a few months. Other prominent faces at LA FC include basketball legend Magic Johnson and former soccer player Mia Hamm.

Elton John

The British singer has been a fan of Watford FC since childhood. In 1976 he became chairman of the club for the first time. In the meantime he was the main owner, but today he still has a minority stake.

Tom Brady

Ryan Reynolds

Together with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, Reynolds took over the Welsh club AFC Wrexham, which plays in the fourth English division, in 2020.
