Renowned voice actor Kevin Conroy passed away in November 2022. He lent his voice to Batman for a long time – starting with the 1992 cult animated series “Batman” and its numerous sequels, and later also other animated titles. His duels with ‘Star Wars’ legend Mark Hamill as the Joker were particularly popular with comic book fans. For most Batman fans, Conroy and Hamill are the best Batman-Joker duo there is. After Conroy’s death, Hamill even announced that he would never voice the Joker again out of respect for his colleague. What he didn’t reveal at the time: There is one last appearance of the two.
There’s a big DC event happening in the animation industry right now: Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths is an epic three-part game, which tells one of the best comic book stories about legendary DC characters like Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Co. “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One” will be released in early 2024, “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two” will follow in the spring and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three” will follow later.” And in this third part we should hear Conroy and Hamill again…
Comeback thanks to Multiverse
Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths is about the impending destruction of the Multiverse. An ancient multiverse being, the Monitor, wants to avert this and gathers the most powerful heroes and heroines from different worlds to face the threat together.
The triptych is the culmination of a large DC cinematic universe in the home theater sector. The so-called Tomorrowverse started in 2020 with ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ and also includes titles like the two-part ‘Batman: The Long Halloween’. In this universe, ‘Supernatural’ star Jensen Ackles speaks with Batman, while Troy Baker, best known to many video game fans (including Joel Miller in ‘The Last Of Us’), plays the Joker. But since it’s a multiverse story, there’s obviously room for different variations of each character.
It has now been confirmed, that in the third part Conroy and Hamill appear as further variants of Batman and Joker – and not as incarnations of the character. They would portray the exact same versions of the two archenemies from the 1992 animated cult series. Now fans can look forward to the end of the trilogy with even greater anticipation.
