Cup coup for CC!

Sion President Christian Constantin once again did everything for success in his favorite competition, for the quarter-final victory against YB (2:1). Despite the home game, his team met at the hotel the day before.

Sion defender Joël Schmied describes what happened for Blick: “It was very striking that it was a special match for the club. The president gave a speech. His best colleague inspired us with horns. Everything was done by the environment so that we could perform. And the audience gave it an extra push.”

CC addressed each individual during his speech

Is there an episode from the speech that Schmied can reveal? He says Constantin said something to each player. Schmied with shining eyes: “You notice that for him the cup is more important than the championship.”

This can also be seen in the photos after the final whistle, when CC kisses his coach Didier Tholot (59) on the head. “His work is crucial to our rising heights,” Constantin says of Tholot. The Frenchman is in his fourth term at Sion and won the cup with the Valais in 2009 and 2015.

Schmied plays in central defense in the tourbillon on Thursday evening. And he almost made it 2-0 with his head (64′). In the same scene, Sorgic scored for Sion to make it 2-0. YB only gets 1:2.

Schmied actually comes from Bern, went through the entire youth academy at YB and YB goalkeeper David von Ballmoos is his brother-in-law. But because it’s the cup, Anthony Racioppi is in the YB goal and there is no duel between brothers-in-law.

Von Ballmoos is warming up at YB

Von Ballmoos tries to push and wake up his team. When the ball goes out of play at the YB bench, he jumps up in his winter coat and immediately throws it to Blum (37th). And moments later he was the first to complain vehemently to the fourth referee after a Sion foul that was not called during a YB counter-attack. In the 87th minute he also received a yellow card for crossing the touchline and swearing like a pig. You shouldn’t do that either, but the Emmentaler brings in the energy.

Unfortunately, from YB’s perspective, teammates aren’t pulling their weight enough. The tourbillon is transformed into a festival hut. And it will be a hot spring for YB.

Sion continues in the cup against Lugano. President Constantin would actually have wanted Servette. “The road to the final is still long. I have also played semi-finals and lost,” warns CC.
