Dealing with trustee: Will Becker be able to buy his way out of debt?

Almost two years ago, in May 2022, Boris Becker (56) was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for insolvency offenses. He served this sentence in Great Britain. And was released after only eight months. The six-time Grand Slam champion was deported to his home country Germany on a trial basis.

As “Bild” now reports, Becker is close to completing his insolvency proceedings. The newspaper’s investigation shows that he transferred approximately 450,000 euros to curator Mark Ford in December, so that the proceedings could be ended early. The only thing missing is the formal court order.

Regulations in UK insolvency law

The whole thing is made possible by a regulation in British insolvency law. Those affected can make a new financial start if they have met their obligations for a certain period. Becker may become financially active again under certain restrictions. According to the German newspaper, the ex-tennis star may not take up the position of general manager in England until around October 16, 2031. The option to take out a loan is also limited.

Boris Becker was declared bankrupt in 2017. Since then, he has had to use much of his income to pay off his debts. If his deal with Ford goes through, that will no longer be the case and Becker can use his money again. But what will not change until the end of his suspended sentence is that he will no longer be allowed to travel to the US or Australia. (beer)
