Borussia Dortmund knew in advance that a draw against Manchester City would be enough to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. It was the same: a fairly flat duel ended 0-0. City is sure to win the group.
Chelsea also did well on Tuesday night, qualifying in Group E for the next round.
In a somewhat disappointing first half in Dortmund, only the home side had chances: Karim Adeyemi shot the ball straight at the keeper and Youssoufa Moukoko shot wide from close range.
After the break, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved Ryad Mahrez’s penalty and also prevented Julian Alvarez from scoring. Theirs didn’t do it for City because he still won the group.
The match never really struck, but too much happened to call it a Salon tie.
Sevilla defeated FC Copenhagen 3-0 at home in the same group but continue on their way in the Europa League. It is the record holder with no fewer than six final victories.
The Spaniards certainly didn’t have an easy time at home against the Danes, with Copenhagen creating great chances both before and after the break, but Hakon Arnar Haraldsson saw his shot in the corner nicely averted by Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic and William Clem scored a few Minutes after resting the pole.
However, Sevilla took the lead after more than an hour when substitute Youssef En-Nesyri headed in a cross from Papu Gomez, seen behind goalkeeper Kamil Grabara. En-Nesyri was a goldcrest, but also an unlucky one. He left the field injured shortly after his goal.
Kevin Diks almost headed in his Danish employers to make it 1-1, but ten minutes from time he only hit the crossbar. In the closing stages, goals from Isco and Gonzalo Montiel gave Sevilla a 3-0 lead. Copenhagen’s Davit Khocholava received a red card just before injury time after going in with a straight-leg tackle.
After an attractive game with many chances, Chelsea are in the next round of the Champions League. Coach Graham Potter’s side beat Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 in Austria on Tuesday night to secure a place in the top two of the group with ten points from five games.
After 23 minutes, Chelsea took the lead and took the lead. Mateo Kovacic got the ball at his feet after ex-Ajax player Maximilian Wöber tapped the ball away in front of Pulisic but right into the Chelsea midfielder’s feet. Kovacic didn’t hesitate and curled the ball from the edge of the box into the back of the back.
Immediately after the break, the Austrians were hoping for a penalty after Kovacic hit the ball with his hand. But according to referee Scharer and VAR, this moment was not worth a penalty. Nevertheless, it was hit a minute later. Junior Adamu completed a wonderful cross pass from Wöber to make it 1-1.
A game then developed that could have gone either way, but it was Kai Havertz who put the English back in front after 64 minutes. The German curled the ball nicely into the intersection from about twenty yards. That became the winning goal.
AC Milan won 4-0 at Dinamo Zagreb in the same group and will face Salzburg next week to determine who can claim eighth place in the final. Matteo Gabbia, Rafael Leão, Olivier Giroud and Robert Ljubicic (own goal) scored against the Croatians.
