Lulu Sun (WTA 181) is in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai. After winning the starting set, the 22-year-old Swiss benefited from the injury-related retirement of her opponent Paula Badosa (WTA 74).

Sun, who enters the tournament in the United Arab Emirates with a wild card, uses her fifth break point against the 26-year-old Spaniard to take a 3-2 lead. She defends her lead and wins the set 6:4.

In the second round, Sun will face Jelena Ostapenko. The ninth-seeded Latvian won her opening match against China’s Wang Xiyu 5:7, 6:2, 6:3. (SDA)
