Federal councilor Guy Parmelin (l.) visits the women’s descent in Crans-Montana (here with OC boss Marius Robyr).

This news caused a furore late on Friday evening: the FIS is playing the mood killer in Crans-Montana USA, where the Women’s World Cup is currently taking place, and is threatening to withdraw the 2027 World Cup.

To date, there is no contract between the world association and Swiss-Ski. This is despite the fact that two years have passed since the award. Accusation of the FIS: Swiss-Ski, the Canton of Valais and the Crans-Montana community association cannot guarantee the financial guarantees given during the candidacy.

Parmelin denies the allegations

Should we really worry about the 2027 World Cup? Federal councilor Guy Parmelin (64) tries to calm minds: “The federal government, the Federal Council and Parliament voted on the financial guarantees in 2022. So I don’t know where this polemic comes from, but the federal government has made the commitments and when Parliament voted, this was confirmed.” This was what the SVP politician said to Keystone-SDA during his visit to the second women’s downhill race in Crans-Montana.

The FIS also claims that a referendum should take place to release the financial guarantees. Parmelin denies that. “The funds were presented to parliament and adopted in 2022. So the Federal Council and Parliament did their job and introduced these guarantees. And these guarantees are not subject to the referendum. The deadline is extended.”

One thing is clear: the final chapter in this feud has not yet been written. Swiss ski president Urs Lehmann (54) wants to comment on this during Saturday. (mo)
