Sad news from Norway. Former professional footballer Mounir Hamoud died unexpectedly at the age of 39. As the Norwegian first division club Strömsgodset announced, the Norwegian with Moroccan roots suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday morning. Particularly tragic: he should have taken up his new challenge in Strömsgodset’s technical staff that day.
Hamoud moved from Bodö/Glimt to Strömsgodset in February 2012, where he played a total of 143 games in eight years. In 2013 he celebrated the championship title with the Norwegian club and became a crowd favorite over the years. At the end of 2019, he finally hung up his football boots.
After his retirement, he worked in player development at the Norwegian Football Association for four years. Now he should have returned to the club he loved as a talent developer, but tragically that was never allowed to happen.
Strömsgodset says goodbye to Hamoud in a statement. “This is brutal and shocking news. With Mounir we have lost a truly unique fellow human being. “He was always friendly, positive and generous,” the club mourns the 39-year-old. His thoughts are mainly with his family. The ex-professional footballer is survived by his wife Monika and five children, for whom Strömsgodset has set up a donation account.
