Horror crash during training: Swiss bobsledder taken to hospital by helicopter

It should have been the newly assembled Swiss Super Bob for the World Cup. But now the medal dreams are suddenly no longer relevant. Because a horror accident occurs during the four-member team’s first training together.

During training for the World Cup race in Altenberg (De), the large sled of pilot Michael Vogt (26) crashes heavily. Pusher Sandro Michel (27) was particularly hit hard by the crash on the German ice rink. According to a statement from the Swiss Sliding Association, the man from Aargau suffered serious injuries. Michel must be flown by helicopter to the University Hospital in Dresden.

Bob sass. According to the first information, the fastest Swiss pusher is in stable condition. Pilot Vogt is also injured and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The two other pushers, Andreas Haas (27) and Dominik Hufschmid (25), were slightly injured. But the big worry is Sandro Michel. The pusher made a career together with pilot Vogt and the duo has established themselves as number 1 in Switzerland in recent years. The provisional crown: World Championship bronze last year in St. Moritz in the two-man bobsled.

Now, with a view to the World Championships in Winterberg at the end of February, the association has assigned Vogt and Michel the best pushers from the other Swiss teams for the four-man race. The goal: to intervene in the battle for medals against the dominant Germans; next Sunday’s World Cup race should have served as preparation for this.
