In the series “Reacher” nothing was changed about the lonely character of the title hero, but the ex-military police officer Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson, has a close confidante: Frances Neagley (played by Maria Sten). In the novels, she is also an old colleague and friend who helps him several times. But they both don’t get together as often as in the series and don’t exchange ideas as often. It doesn’t appear at all in the template for the first season, nor in the novel on which the upcoming third season is based. But she was built into both series stories as a major character – a “strategic decision” as novelist Lee Child now calls it explained:
“The one thing you can’t do on screen and you can’t do in the books is look inside someone’s head. Reacher thinks a lot. There are pages and pages of him thinking things over. But You can’t write an eight-minute scene where Alan Ritchson is just thinking. “So we needed a second character to enhance the exposition.”
With Frances Neagley: This is how ‘Reacher’ continues
In the third season of ‘Reacher’, Frances Neagley will also tell us in dialogues with Reacher what the main character has just thought about and, of course, effectively support her in carrying out these plans – even if she is not part of the original novel. This is called “The Janus Man”. On behalf of the DEA, Reacher wins the trust of a supposedly major player in the drug trade. But the fighter for justice has his own goal. Behind his target lies a much greater threat: an old acquaintance from the past. Reacher thought he killed him at some point. Now he wants to make sure he doesn’t return from the dead.
It was recently announced that she will star alongside Ritchson and Maria Sten Also Anthony Michael Hall (“Halloween kills”) and Sonya Cassidy (“Bosch: Legacy”) are part of the cast. Hall plays flatulent businessman Zachary Beck, who is suspected by the DEA of drug trafficking and for whom Reacher begins working as part of his undercover assignment. Cassidy plays the sharp-witted DEA agent Susan Duffy, who in the novel – as is almost usual in the series – not only hunts bad guys together, but also shares a bed with Reacher one night or another.
The third season of “Reacherdoesn’t have an air date yet, but we currently expect it to release in late 2024, a year after the second season.
