Declaration of love after a day of skiing together: Ski legend Vonn deletes Federer’s post after heavy criticism

Lindsey Vonn (39) has won everything there is to win in the ski circus. And yet even a superstar like her has dreams. Last week a very big one came out: she went skiing for a day in Lenzerheide GR with her idol Roger Federer (42).

She expresses her happiness on X and Instagram: “We’ve been talking about it for so long, I wasn’t sure if it would happen. But here we are: retired, skiing, enjoying life!” The post turns into a true declaration of love for the tennis maestro: “Usually people you admire disappoint you in some way – but not Roger Federer.”

The twenty-time Grand Slam winner, with whom she played tennis on the Jungfraujoch almost ten years ago, is the epitome of an athlete and a true champion. He and his family are “truly unique.” For Vonn, who has won the downhill ball eight times, it is crystal clear: “You are the GOAT – forever, because it takes more than numbers to have the influence you have.” Words for which the American faces strong opposition.

Vonn deletes email and justifies himself

Countless Nadal and Djokovic fans responded critically to her post, saying their idols were the greatest of all time (“GOAT”). One answer goes something like this: “Do you even know what the terminology of the word is? The GOAT is determined by numbers and successes and Djokovic is currently number 1!”

The 2010 Olympic downhill champion then deleted the post on X. The reason: she didn’t want the negative comments to ruin her skiing experience with Federer. She fully supports what she wrote. In a new post, Vonn explains: “The post wasn’t a comparison, it was a tribute to my friend who had a major influence on my life. Federer can be my GOAT, no matter what others think.”

“For me, Roger will always be the GOAT”

The title of greatest of all time is subjective; for some statistics and data they are decisive, for others it is influence and character. “My GOAT is not necessarily your GOAT, and the debate will always be there,” said the four-time overall World Cup winner.

On Instagram, where she did not delete the post, a user wrote in the comments column that Mikaela Shiffrin in skiing and Novak Djokovic in tennis were the GOATs. Vonn immediately answers: “That is certainly the case and I have a lot of respect for both of them. But I don’t classify the GOAT based on statistics.” And she ends with a sentence she has said countless times: “To me, Roger will always be the GOAT.”
