Ten championship titles, seven cup victories, several World Cup and European Championship participations – Fabienne Humm (37) has experienced almost everything in her long career. A double derby in Letzigrund is a first even for the FCZ legend. Immediately after the match between the two Super League teams FCZ and GC, there is also a Zurich derby in the Women’s Super League in Letzigrund.
Humm had to wait a long time for a game like this. “We have always advocated being allowed to play a match immediately after the men’s match,” the former international told Blick. “The fact that we succeeded in the derby is extra nice.”
Host FCZ’s big goal is to set a new attendance record for a league match in Swiss women’s football. “Above all, we want to show the attractiveness of women’s football to a wider audience. For this reason, we have deliberately chosen that the ticket for the men’s match is also valid for the women’s match,” said the Zurich company.
From an organizational point of view, the double derby poses several challenges for the FCZ. On the one hand, the club is faced with significantly higher personnel costs. The fact that two matches take place one after the other at Letzigrund means that employees in the areas of catering, ticketing and security, for example, have to be present for considerably longer.
Zurich residents must also make extra efforts in the field of advertising. Men’s and women’s teams have different sponsors. The same applies to the two competitions with title sponsors Credit Suisse and AXA. In the 40 minutes between the two matches, adjustments must be made to, among other things, the LED signs around the lawn.
The short period between the two matches also means that the women have to warm up on a field right next to the stadium. A circumstance that Fabienne Humm happily accepts. “The fact that we can play in such a setting in Letzigrund is a nice signal from the FCZ, the league and also the city of Zurich,” says the striker happily.
Humm and her teammates don’t want to put too much pressure on themselves before the premiere. “But of course there is a bit of nervousness involved,” says the woman from Aargau. “But that is the case in every derby, regardless of how many spectators there will be in the stadium.”
There must be more than 8,923 on Saturday if the FCZ wants to break the attendance record for the match between YB and GC last October. In short, the Letzigrund is a good place for new records: In June 2022, the women’s national team set a new record for an international match against England (0:4) in Zurich with 10,022 spectators. Of course, then: Fabienne Humm.
