Kobel and I are in constant contact. I’m not in the locker room every day, but we see each other very often. Gregor likes to benefit from my experience and likes to listen. He constantly wants to learn and know the opinions of others.
How do you see the duel with Yann Sommer in the Nati goal?
I was surprised that Murat Yakin has already publicly announced who will be number 1 at the 2024 European Championship. I wish that as a coach he had left the race for the first goalkeeper open until the tournament. That would have been important to keep the tension going. But apart from that, I think Kobel is already stronger than Sommer.
You played with Yakin for Kaiserslautern from 2000 to 2001.
Yes, I have fond memories of our time together. We are still friends – and I really respect him as a coach. I wish him nothing but the best for the European Championship and look forward to the game against Germany.
