Just a look at retirees in Switzerland shows that 30 percent of single-person households live on less than 2,500 francs a month. Approximately one in five retired households has no savings or even debt. The situation is even more bleak for foreigners who migrate to Switzerland during their working lives.
They were drawn to Switzerland because there was a huge shortage of workers in low-wage sectors. We can’t blame them for spending their twilight years at home. Even Swiss retirees who seek their happiness further and further away.
They often worked for low wages all their lives, helped in the hospitality or sales industry, cleaned or helped build modern-day Switzerland as construction workers, and had to pay every franc twice during their working lives. They no longer want to live like beggars on their pensions.
AHV pensions for Swiss abroad and returnees are below average. This would make it impossible to retire honorably in Switzerland. A country with a lower cost of living can offer this to you. They should lie on the beach, go to restaurants regularly, and enjoy other amenities of life. You deserved this!
