FC Bayern Munich recorded an easy 2-0 win in the away game at TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon. This puts the state champions one point behind leaders Union Berlin, who are bottom of the table and meet VFL Bochum on Sunday.
Jamal Musiala opened the scoring: in a corner after a Leon Goretzka header, he got the ball in front of his feet and pushed away. Shortly before halftime, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the 0:2 after a one-two with Serge Gnabry.
Matthijs de Ligt played the entire game at Bayern Munich. Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui were allowed to play in the last fifteen minutes.
Freiburg reclaimed third place from Mainz thanks to a 2-0 home win against Werder Bremen. At Werder, Marco Friedl was shown red after a quarter of an hour when he threw a broken player to the ground. After the break, Lukas Kübler scored from eight yards and Vincenzo Grifo converted a penalty kick.
Jeremie Frimpong helped Bayer Leverkusen to a point in their home game against Wolfsburg. Frimpong made it 2-2 with a quarter of an hour to go and thus prevented the seventh defeat of the season.
The assist for the equalizer came from Daley Sinkgraven, who had just come on for Mitchel Bakker.
The 21-year-old Frimpong, born in Amsterdam, has started the season well. He played nine years in the youth team of Manchester City, switched from Celtic to Bayer Leverkusen last year and is part of national coach Louis van Gaal’s provisional World Cup squad.
Bakker, also in the preselection of the Orange squad, had a regular place at Bayer Leverkusen, as did Frimpong.
Micky van de Ven performed at the opening event in Wolfsburg. He conceded a penalty that Moussa Diaby missed. Van de Ven also has chances of a place in Van Gaal’s last World Cup selection.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah, the fourth Dutchman fielded by Leverkusen, came on with twenty minutes remaining.
Borussia Dortmund has defended itself against relegation candidate Stuttgart. Jude Bellingham gave Dortmund the lead after two minutes and then ran easily to 5-0.
Eintracht Frankfurt won the away game at Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1.
