Christian Streich will give an inflammatory speech against the political right on Thursday.

Christian Streich used his public appearance on Thursday to deliver a fiery speech against the political right. At his press conference, the coach of Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, who has repeatedly positioned himself against parties such as the AFD in the past, is clearer than ever before.

‘If you don’t get up now, you haven’t understood anything. That is beyond any question. It is five to twelve,” says Streich, who on Wednesday took part in a demonstration against the right-wing camp together with other representatives of the sports club in Freiburg: “Anyone who does nothing now has not understood anything at school or in history.”

Streich appeals to society as a whole. “Football fans are citizens, football coaches are citizens, business bosses are also citizens. Everyone in this country is called on to stand up and take a very clear stand,” the coach says: “Stand up, take a very clear stand, nothing more. No one can sit anymore. Everyone is responsible for themselves.”

Streich warns about the AFD

Streich explicitly warns against the AFD. “No one can come to me and call themselves a protest voter. No one should complain to me if they are then autocratically ruled by a right-wing nationalist party,” says the 58-year-old. “I have lived as a free person in a democracy for 58 years. I am eternally grateful for that. The vocabulary used is incredible.”

The AFD is currently at a record high in the polls. Moreover, a meeting between party members and neo-Nazis recently made headlines. In response, there have been demonstrations against the right in several cities in recent days, and football clubs and professionals have also taken a clear stand. (AFP)
