The fall was a big shock for his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin (28). Despite her lover’s accident, she took part in the night slalom in Flachau on Tuesday evening and promptly won. After her triumph, she burst into tears. Now the American turns to the public with an extensive statement on Instagram. And provides insight into her emotional life after the disturbing last days.
“It feels like I’ve lived a thousand different lives in the last four days. And I’m not even the one hitting the net at 120 km/h.” She couldn’t express how much Kilde meant to her. When she saw him have an accident in Wengen, she wanted to “burn the universe down.”
Kilde, on the other hand, has never felt anger despite injuries, surgeries and the end of the season, Shiffrin says. “He remained gracious and appreciative through every step of the process. He never once lost his temper, even when he had good reason to do so. He is inspiring, thoughtful and compassionate. Even in difficult moments, he brings out the best in everyone around him.”

She said to herself, “If you’re on the slope instead of being with him, then it should be worth it.” And that was it in the end – Shiffrin won the World Cup for the 94th time and was able to further extend her lead in the Slalom World Cup.
She concludes the emotional statement, repeatedly accompanied by heart emojis, with a thank you to her team. “They moved heaven and earth for me so that I could get to Aleks as quickly as possible. (…) Without them the victory would not have been possible.” (sbe)
