After he sold his shares in HC Lausanne to Grégory Finger a year ago and left Switzerland, it became quiet around Petr Svoboda (57). Now the club’s former minority owner, who left the arena in Vaud through the back door, was a guest on the podcast ‘Raw Knuckles’, where former Biel and Lugano striker Tim Stapleton (41, USA) is one of the presenters.

First, the longtime NHL defenseman and 1998 Czech Olympic hero speaks in detail about his past as a player. Then the conversation turns to Switzerland in due time. First, he says he has “only good things to say about this country” and has “enjoyed every moment of it.” A little later, Svoboda, who lived in Switzerland for three years and says he still has a house here, takes a completely different tone. “I encountered racism and hatred there. I had never experienced that before.” However, Svoboda is not specific about his accusations.

The Swiss are ‘not bad people’, but ‘they wait until things don’t go well for you. I brought some very good foreigners with me, but they were not patient enough because they think they are better than any other country in the world,” added the man who caused chaos in Lausanne.

“We could have built something extraordinary”

According to him, it was the results at the start of the 2022/2023 season that were fatal for him. “The damn fans started rolling out banners demanding my departure. The owner wanted to make himself popular. I told him to stay the course and that in a year or two we would laugh about this time because I would perform 50 to 60 concerts.”

If you listen to him, the only thing that was missing was the patience to achieve success with the club and the arena. «After Covid and thanks to my contacts at Live Nation, we were immediately able to organize five to six major concerts. We could have built something extraordinary. I brought Sting, Kendrick Lamar and Gad Elmaleh on board.”
