NHL star Josi suffers from ski fall victim Kohler: ‘That hurt me brutally’

Marco Kohler falls from an all-time high into a deep hole on the Lauberhorn within a tenth of a second! After an impressive start to the season (8th in Val Gardena, 10th in Bormio), the Meiringer suffered a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus injuries during the shortened Lauberhorn descent on Thursday. The 26-year-old’s first World Cup season is already over.

After a few brutal hours, the childhood friend of superstar Marco Odermatt is now looking to the future with confidence again. The operation on his right knee was successful on Saturday.

Kohler was also greatly helped by the many congratulatory messages he received on his cell phone. “I received over 100 messages, all encouraging me.” Kohler was particularly pleased with one message from Nashville. “The fact that Roman Josi personally contacted me is one of the nicest things for me as an ice hockey fan!”

“We immediately clicked very well”

Kohler met the NHL superstar last summer on the golf course in Interlaken. Marco Odermatt and Mark Streit were also there that day. “Streiti and I immediately got along very well with the two ski heroes,” says Josi. “And that’s why it hurt me so much when I heard about Marco’s fall before the away match in Dallas. But the way I judge him, Marco will come back strong.”

The Bernese Oberlander has already made an impressive recovery from a Lauberhorn crash. In 2020, Kohler, like the previous driver, suffered total damage to his left knee in a crash in the Ziel-S. Although a doctor predicted that he would never participate in top sport again, Marco secured a permanent place at the World Cup last winter by winning the general classification of the European Cup downhill.
