For a few hours, the Lauberhorn start of top talent Franjo von Allmen is in acute danger. Why? The 22-year-old fell the day after his 14th place in the shortened descent in the Super-G! “It gave me a serious pinch in my knee and elbow,” says the Bernese Oberlander.

“Luckily the pain went away quickly and that’s why I decided to start on Friday evening. But I have decided to proceed with a certain degree of caution.” Von Allmen shows little caution in this memorable race – with starting number 33 the trained carpenter thunders again to 14th place. After eight World Cup appearances, FvA can now boast four top 15 places!

The dramatic story of Joshua Mettler

For the first time in the top 15, directly behind Von Allmen is Josua Mettler from Toggenburg, who won the overall classification in the European Cup last winter. The 25-year-old arrived just before a catastrophe in Zermatt three years ago. After a classic threader in Super-G training, he hit a B net.

The medical diagnosis made him realize how deeply the Eastern Swiss had looked death in the face in this situation: “In addition to a fractured skull, I also had a bruised heart. The doctors made it clear to me that if my heart were to be bruised too badly, it would mean instant death.” Mettler handled this shock surprisingly well. The skull quickly grew back together and the ugly room left hardly any mental traces. “Because I always look ahead, I have never had any problems pushing myself on a descent after this accident.”

Lars Rösti (25) also shows strong signs of life in Wengen. The Obersimmentaler rode the number 52 to 24th place and thus secured his first World Cup points in more than a year.
