Grand Prix of the CHI Basel: Staut with the only double clear

Only four riders reach the jump-off without errors in the CHI Basel Grand Prix. Not to be found among them: world number 1 Henrik von Eckermann (Sd), European champion Steve Guerdat, co-favorite Martin Fuchs and defending champion Max Kühner (Ö). This is already the end for the only four riders in the top 10 in the world rankings. After a bend, a pole falls on a steep jump for Fuchs and his gelding Commissar Pezi. Guerdat’s mare Is-Minka tears a bar from the oxer while jumping from the triple.

The quartet Alain Jufer, Yuri Mansur (Br), Kevin Staut (Fr) and Denis Lynch (Irl) battle for the GP victory. The Jurassic horse Jufer must be the first to work on the gelding Dante MM. He doesn’t set a top time and also gets a drop. Nevertheless, the 45-year-old finished in third place on the GP podium. The reason: Final rider Lynch made a mistake at the penultimate obstacle and rode exactly the same time as the Swiss. That’s why they share 3rd place.

Staut is the only one who delivered two clear rounds with his mare Visconti du Telman. The Frenchman won the Basel Grand Prix for the first time. Brazilian Mansur came second, although he had the fastest time, but also suffered a drop.

Other Swiss achieve top placements. Adrian Schmid finished in a strong fifth place with gelding Chicharito with only one time fault. Elian Baumann jumps to 7th place with Little Lumpi with just one drop.
