Teichmann, Waltert, Ritschard: Three Swiss take steps towards the Australian Open

Good start for Switzerland in qualifying for the Australian Open. Both Jill Teichmann (WTA 130) and Simona Waltert (WTA 166) on the women’s side and Alexander Ritschard (ATP 198) on the men’s side impressed with their performances in the 1st round.

Teichmann needed just 52 minutes for her 6:2, 6:1 victory against Frenchwoman Alice Robbe (WTA 224). Waltert also needed less than an hour for her 6:1, 6:1 victory against Croatia’s Petra Marcinko (WTA 174). Ritschard has to ‘fight’ some more against Clément Tabur (ATP 232). Ritschard won the first set in the tiebreak (7:5), securing victory after just over two hours and a 6:3 in the second set.

Three more will arrive on Wednesday

The first hurdle towards the Australian Open has been taken for three Swiss, three more will also be involved in the action on Wednesday evening. Marc-Andrea Hüsler (WTA 191) meets Austrian Filip Misolic (ATP 126). The Russian Tatjana Prozorowa (20, WTA 234) is waiting for the 18-year-old Céline Naef (WTA 137). Lulu Sun (22, WTA 189) meets the British Heather Watson (31, WTA 142). (dti)
