“You can be proud”: did fireworks kill an animal from Ralf Schumacher’s farm?

This is not how Ralf Schumacher (48) imagined the start of the new year.

As the former Formula 1 driver (six poles, six GP victories) writes on Instagram, an animal from his private farm in Kerpen (D) died on New Year’s Eve. For Schumacher it is clear: the wild animal died out of fear of the fireworks.

In his post, published on Monday afternoon, Ralf Schumacher blamed employees of the energy company RWE for the fireworks that were apparently set off near Schumacher’s property during New Year’s celebrations. “Unfortunately the animal died thanks to their workers who dropped off some extremely powerful firecrackers on my farm which is three miles away from everything.”

A petting zoo has been set up at the parental home

According to Schumacher, horses, ponies and pigs also panicked because of the noise. “You can be proud of yourself,” adds the younger brother of F1 champion Michael Schumacher sarcastically.

Just a few months ago, Ralf Schumacher, known for his commitment to animal protection, set up a kind of petting zoo in his home country. Schumacher explained to ‘Auto Bild’ that he wanted to restore his parents’ house to what it once was: ‘A farm with many animals.’

Schumacher’s post quickly led to many angry reactions on Instagram. However, the RWE group has not yet taken a position.
