Lanisek wins: Swiss disappoint at New Year’s competition in Garmisch

The Swiss ski jumpers suffered a defeat during the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Only Remo Imhof reached the final round, but had to make do with 28th place.

Anze Lanisek can be celebrated as the winner of the day during the second stop of the Four Hills Tournament. The Slovenian lands after 136 m and 137 m. Andreas Wellinger continues to lead the general classification and has to settle for third place behind Ryoyu Kobayashi. The German and the Japanese are only 1.8 points apart in the general classification, which is the equivalent of one meter.

A bitter bankruptcy for Deschwanden

A ranking in the World Cup points rankings certainly means a considerable achievement for the 20-year-old Imhof. Considering the jumps beforehand, slightly more than 127 m and 131 m can be expected. A career-best result so far, 17th place in Lahti at the end of March, seems possible.

Gregor Deschwanden (34th/124.5 m) and Simon Ammann (38th/125 m) were eliminated in the first round. This result is particularly annoying for the Lucerne native, who has never ranked lower than 15th at the World Cup this season and was aiming for a top ten finish in the tour’s final rankings.
