Sprint sister makes comeback on the ice: Kambundji races to the bobsleigh championship title in St. Moritz

Kambundji wins the Swiss championship title – not a particularly big surprise in athletics, but certainly in bobsleigh. Muswama Kambundji (27), the second youngest of the four Kambundji sisters, wins the women’s championship at the SM in St. Moritz in the two-man bobsled of World Cup pilot Melanie Hasler (25).

Muswama Kambundji resumed her second career on the ice this winter. The Londoner is still active in athletics, although not at the very high world level like her sisters Mujinga (31) and Ditaji (21).

Kambundji already has World Cup experience

But in bobsleigh, Muswama Kambundji can even dream of the 2026 Olympic Games. The Bernese woman pushed the sled of the now retired Martina Fontanive (37) at the European and World Championships six years ago. Now the sprinter with the dazzling name is back – and with Hasler she is immediately at the front of the mini starting field of the women’s SM with only three teams.

Is Hasler/Kambundji a duo for the future? That remains open. Hasler’s regular pusher Nadja Pasternack (27) is on maternity leave this season. Mara Morell (29) actually wanted to take a step back because of her job, but now represents Pasternack in most World Cup matches. Morell was unavailable for the SM – so Kambundji stepped in as pusher for Switzerland 1 after a few training trips in December.
