Jens Lehmann was sentenced to a fine of 420,000 euros.

Two charges were at the center of the trial of former German national team goalkeeper Jens Lehmann (54): first, the attack with a chainsaw on his neighbor’s garage. On the other hand are parking garage fraud at Munich Airport.

The Starnberg court has now decided: Lehmann is sentenced to a fine of 420,000 euros for two insults, material damage and attempted fraud.

The amount consists of 210 daily rates of 2,000 euros each. According to financial research by the Public Prosecution Service, Lehmann’s expenses amounted to approximately 72,000 euros per month. Bild reports this.

“With a chainsaw in their hands, heroes become legends.”

About a year and a half ago, the 54-year-old was filmed cutting through a beam in his neighbor’s garage with a chainsaw. The other accusation related to two cases in 2021 and 2022: he charged his electric Porsche twice in the Munich airport parking garage. According to the prosecutor, he then drove through the exit right behind other vehicles. This way he saved more than 300 euros.

Prosecutor Stefan Kreutzer accuses Lehmann of a high level of criminal energy. “With a chainsaw in their hands, heroes become legends,” says Kreutzer.

There is “no doubt” about the allegations against the ex-goalkeeper, the public prosecutor said. The newspaper ‘Bild’ quoted him as saying: he ‘just wanted to transfer one to his neighbor.’

“Severe behavioral problems”

Kreutzer is also certain that Lehmann wanted to use his trick to avoid having to pay in the airport parking garage. “This is very behavioral,” says the prosecutor. “And all for a few hundred euros – given your financial circumstances.”

The defendant’s lawyer, Christoph Rücker, accused the public prosecutor of revenge and inadmissible ‘moralizing’. “This courtroom is not a moral authority that should train a former national player,” Rücker said. He demanded an acquittal on charges of criminal damage and attempted fraud. (gs)
