Biography of Austrian legend Veith (34) made a deep impression on speed devil Suter (29): “Anna is a role model, she has been through a lot.”

Former Austrian ski topper Anna Veith has not only won a lot. She is also a role model to many, including Corinne Suter.

Corinne Suter (29) has had a lot on her mind in recent weeks. Initially she hoped in vain for the new Matterhorn descents, then she was sick in bed for a week, followed by the speed start in St. Moritz GR (place 8 and 11). Now she wants to shine in Val d’Isère – she comes third in the first and only downhill training.

The first interim conclusion can be said: Suter recently experienced exactly what she didn’t want to experience anymore: ups and downs. Last season she had too many moments like that. Now it wasn’t her fault that neither the weather nor her body always cooperated. But that doesn’t bother her, the woman from Schwyz has experience with that. And finally, your winter is only really starting now.

Received fantasy book from teammate

But it is not only his own experiences of recent years that keep Suter calm. No, reading also gives her strength. “My teammate Juliana Suter gave me a fantasy book. I’m not a member yet, but I definitely want to start soon,” she says.

Fictional stories are one thing – Suter also enjoys reading biographies. She devoured the one about former champions Franz Heinzer and Pirmin Zurbriggen a long time ago. “I am also interested in the experiences of athletes from other sports,” she says.

“We write to each other every now and then”

Suter is particularly fond of one biography: “Zwischenzeit”, the book by former ski queen Anna Veith (34, Austria). “It’s insane what Anna had to go through with her terrible injuries. But what impresses me most is her fighting heart. If you are in a less good phase yourself, you can get a lot out of it. Because Anna has shown: there is always a way.”

Not only did Suter and Veith both win World Cup and Olympic gold, no, their careers also overlap. “Unfortunately only for a short time. Still, we get along well and occasionally write about the races. It would be nice to see her again.”

Serious injuries, but a lot of strength

This will hardly be the case in the near future: Veith and her husband Manuel will soon become parents for the second time. Suter: “Anna is a role model. She has been through a lot on the ski circuit and yet remained calm. I find it fascinating how she managed to go full throttle on the slopes.”

Calmness off the track and full power in the races – it is an attitude that Suter also likes to show – perhaps again in Val d’Isère.
