The New Jersey Devils win the home game against the Boston Bruins 2-1 after extra time and are back in the play-offs.
After the home win against the Boston Bruins, the leaders of the Atlantic Division, the Devils are finally back in the battle for the final play-off spot. The first few games at the beginning of the season, then a series of nine games in early November with only two wins ensured that the ambitious team from the New York region with the Swiss Nico Hischier (captain), Timo Meier, Jonas Siegenthaler and Akira Schmid had to follow the competition.
The Devils’ Swiss team remained pale against Boston. New superstar Jack Hughes, only 22 years old, scored the winning goal in extra time with his eleventh goal of the season. 25-year-old Swede Jesper Bratt, New Jersey’s standout player in the first third of the season, did the preliminary work. The New Jersey Devils won from behind for the tenth time this season – more than any other team.
Kevin Fiala and Nino Niederreiter, who met in the Los Angeles Kings’ away game against the Winnipeg Jets, also acted inconspicuously on Thursday evening. Winnipeg won with Niederreiter 5-2 after trailing 0-2. However, both Swiss were unable to collect further scoring points and each left the ice with a score of minus 1. Fiala has not scored a goal in the last eight matches. Nikolaj Ehlers, the son of Visp coach Heinz Ehlers, turned out to be the match winner for Winnipeg with two goals and two assists. (SDA/men)
