Bad luck with injuries again for Nina Ortlieb.

Nina Ortlieb’s (27) season ends brutally on Friday morning. While entering the Super-G in St. Moritz GR, the Austrian fell and was seriously injured. The diagnosis: fracture of the tibia and fibula in the right lower leg.

Without racing, winter is over for the speed specialist. Instead of racing across the Corviglia, Ortlieb returns home by helicopter. She will be operated on Friday – for the twentieth time in her career!

“I’ll keep fighting”

24 hours after her momentous accident, the Austrian spoke out on Instagram. “I can’t describe what it feels like to be so close to your dreams and suddenly so far away!” she writes, accompanied by the broken heart emoji. But she looks ahead. “I will miss the season, but I will keep fighting,” Ortlieb said.

The long-suffering Austrian knows only too well how to fight. Before she experienced the highlight of her career in February with silver at the World Downhill Championships, she had to overcome many setbacks. Her medical records show multiple knee surgeries and she has already suffered fractures to her pelvis, pubic bone and upper arm. Metacarpal bones were broken three times and the ankle joint was broken twice. She also has a dislocated shoulder and a rib fracture, and her nose has also suffered damage several times.

And yet Ortlieb never considered giving up. Instead, she proved how strong you can come back from injury. In December 2022, after a serious knee injury and 23 months of rehabilitation, she made her return – with places 6 and 2 in the descent. (beer)
