The relief is written on the faces of the Swiss riders: finally training again! And soon the first speed races? The weather forecast in St. Moritz for the two Super-Gs (Friday and Sunday) and for the downhill race (Saturday) is not perfect, but promising. “There is still some fresh snow, but the slope is sensational,” says Corinne Suter (29) after the first training on the Corviglia.

The Olympic downhill champion recently trained at Copper Mountain (USA) after both descents on the Matterhorn had to be canceled. The wait happened to her too. “Not physically, but mentally. You had to be ready, but it wasn’t, then you had to concentrate again. That took energy. But I feel good and am looking forward to the three races.”

Suter takes it easy in the first test ride, finishing 23rd and losing 1.71 seconds to the best time of Christina Ager (28, Austria). Lara Gut-Behrami is 27th (+1.92 seconds).

Gisin does not (yet) suffer from jet lag.

The fastest Swiss woman is Michelle Gisin (30) in fourth place – she is not yet feeling the jet lag from the long journey from abroad. “Hopefully it stays that way. In any case, it is a dream to come home.”

World champion Jasmine Flury (30) is a bit sniffy – she caught a cold in the US, but says: “I’m feeling better and better. This year the slope has more terrain, more waves. But it’s easier to drive – you need a fine blade.”

Strong Swiss women in the European Cup

In the meantime, there is good news from the European Cup: four Swiss women reached the top 6 in the giant slalom in Zinal USA. The best is Stefanie Grob (19) from Appenzeller in second place, Janine Schmitt (23) with the high starting number 28 is third.

Vivianne Härri (24), who was still in the lead after the first point, falls back to 13th place. The victory goes to the Austrian Nina Astner (23).
