The Swiss dream of an Olympic Games in 2030 has suddenly shattered. Just five days after the Swiss sports parliament gave the green light, the Olympic project ends in Paris, where the IOC meets this week.

There is still no official announcement, the IOC wants to provide information from 6 p.m. But the French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” reports online that only the French application has cleared the next hurdle. This means: Switzerland – and also the Swedish project with Stockholm, Are and Falun – is out of the race.

In plain language, in 2030 the games will likely take place in the two French regions of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, where much of the infrastructure will be used by the Albertville games in 1992. According to “L’ Equipe”, the IOC decided only to enter into a so-called targeted dialogue with the French about holding the Games. This means that the Winter Games will also take place in our neighboring country just six years after the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
