In the end, everything happened quickly. After SFV president Dominique Blanc (72) and Nati director Pierluigi Tami (62) discussed a major analysis in Bucharest in December, SFV officials have now come to the conclusion within a few days that Murat Yakin (49) was also the right for the final in Germany. The Nati coach is allowed to fulfill his contract, which was extended through the European Championship qualification until after the tournament – despite only one win from the last seven games, a declining performance curve and dissonance between the team and the staff in the autumn.

SFV chairman Blanc is fulfilling the promise he made weeks ago to go to the European Championships with Yakin. The medium-term future has now been clarified, but what will happen to the national team from the summer onwards remains unclear. Because the major announced analysis will only take place after the European Championship. The association therefore postpones the solution to the problem. At the first opportunity the discussions of the past weeks will start again; those about the future will accompany the coach and the team before and during the tournament in Germany.

Tami’s turnaround is particularly surprising. In particular, he publicly addressed the coach after the poor performance in the 0-1 defeat in Bucharest a week ago. The Ticino native was probably convinced by Yakin’s analysis and changed his mind – or he felt that his doubts about the coach did not find a majority in the central administration. Tami’s position has therefore been weakened. Because if the European Championship adventure goes wrong, not only the Yakin era, but also Tami’s era in the SFV will probably come to an end in the summer.
