The World Cup start of the Swiss ski jumpers was a failure. In Kuusamo, Gregor Deschwanden is the best with places 14 and 15.
A breath of fresh air blew through the Swiss ski jumping team this summer. New head coach Rune Velta almost created a bit of euphoria; the switch from the German to the Norwegian training and jumping philosophy was exciting. However, the start of the World Cup season in the far north is sobering.
As expected, Gregor Deschwanden is the best with solid places 14 on Saturday and 15 on Sunday. After an excellent summer Grand Prix with three wins and two second places in nine competitions and a second place overall, missing out on the top ten twice is still a disappointment.
What is particularly bad, however, is the rest of the team. Only Simon Ammann scored some points on Saturday in 26th place. Killian Peier and Remo Imhof didn’t even qualify for the competition there. On Sunday, Peier (37th), Ammann (39th) and Imhof (50th) clearly failed in the first round. In a week, Lillehammer will have the chance to make a correction.
The Germans and Austrians are in much better early form. In the south of Lapland they hijacked the “Stockerl” both times. Stefan Kraft celebrates his World Cup victories 31 and 32. (SDA/men)
