It’s amazing what such artificial intelligence can do.

It’s like with all new and groundbreaking technologies: No one knows exactly what dangers exist or may arise. This is also one reason why “Observer” is hosting a free webinar on “ChatGPT and data protection”.

Even celebrities such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates have publicly warned about the effects of artificial intelligence (AI). But perhaps only when AI is regulated by the government so that they can be involved in the process.

In any case, if you use tools like ChatGPT to organize a trip or write a birthday poem, you won’t die immediately. It’s amazing what this type of AI can do; although they only calculate the most likely answer to a question.

Like a data vacuum cleaner

However: First of all, you should pay attention to the fact that such systems collect all the data. This starts when you sign up. It knows your IP address as well as your name and email address; This may allow you to clearly identify your device. And then of course everything you write.

Second, you can never be completely sure what will happen to the data. It cannot be ruled out that the company is hacked and the data ends up on the dark web or elsewhere.

Even inside a vehicle, you can’t be sure how the information will be used. In particular, they can be used to train the machine, either intentionally or accidentally. Artificial intelligence needs to be trained to become smarter. And to do that, it needs as much data as possible.

Conclusions about humans are possible

People give the machine tasks and then evaluate its responses. These are employees of the technology company or other users of the same tool. This is how they can access your data. If you just enter travel dates and destinations, this probably isn’t a big deal. Things may look different with confidential things, such as details of psychological problems. Who knows if they won’t somehow run into a boss who will use the same tool, recognize a pattern, and maybe figure out who wrote it?

So what other problems could there be? So, is the current data protection law sufficient? If you want to learn more about how to use AI responsibly for work or play, sign up for our free webinar on November 30, 2023.
