It should have been a historic evening for Swiss boxing. But Faton Vukshinaj (32) narrowly loses the fight for the IBO world middleweight title against the Italian Etinosa Oliha (25). The Basel native would have been the first Swiss to win this IBO title.
The battle remained evenly matched for a long time, after the 12 rounds the jury narrowly decided in favor of the undefeated Oliha. For Vukshinaj it is the first defeat of his career after sixteen wins and two draws.
Vukshinaj told Blick that this title fight would mean the world to him. He never wanted to deal with defeat. Now it is a fact. (bjl)
