Will Ineos deal become a problem?: Man Utd threatened with Champions League ban

English football giant Manchester United is looking for a new owner.

The traditional English club Manchester United will soon have a new owner. The chemical company Ineos is about to be taken over. Billionaire and Ineos boss Jim Ratcliffe wants to take over 25 percent of the shares.

The Glazer family’s era as owners of the Red Devils would come to an end, which had only been characterized by chaos and disappointment in recent times. Ratcliffe is already being welcomed with open arms by many United fans. However, Ratcliffe’s takeover would come with a catch. Because this would suddenly make Manchester United part of a football empire that includes several clubs. And that causes legal problems.

UEFA regulations as a spoilsport

Ratcliffe is already involved with football clubs through Ineos. Superleague team Lausanne is one of them. Another is Nice in the French Ligue 1.

And that’s where the problems start. It is quite unrealistic that the Vaudois will qualify for a competition like the Champions League in the foreseeable future. Nice, on the other hand, are currently second in the league and fighting for the title. If the team qualifies for the premier league at the end of the season, there will no longer be a place for Man Utd.

The reason for this is UEFA regulations regarding “multi-club ownership”. It states that an owner can only register one team per season in the three highest European Cup competitions. If several teams of the same owner qualify, the better placement in the respective competitions will decide.

“As the rules currently stand, the situation is clear. Ineos owns Nice and will play an important role in United’s management. As long as the regulations are not changed or Ineos sells one of its assets, both clubs will not be able to participate in European competitions,” an anonymous source from UEFA circles told the British Sun.

It can be done with tricks

But Ineos boss Ratcliffe is not alone with the problem. Red Bull also owns both Salzburg and RB Leipzig. And the Brause teams have shown the way: with a few tips and tricks you can live well with the UEFA regulations.

First, entrepreneur Rudolf Thierl, who had maintained close ties with Leipzig, resigned from Salzburg’s board. Several Red Bull employees also had to leave their positions at the Austrian champions.

In addition, official contracts for loan transactions and cooperation between Salzburg and Leipzig had to be terminated. There were also adjustments to the statutes, sponsorship, rental agreements – and even the shirt design at Salzburg had to be adjusted.

Does Ineos like Red Bull?

The measures did not fail to have an effect: both clubs still have a lot of Red Bull. UEFA now accepts both teams in their competitions.

It is therefore very possible that Ineos is keeping a close eye on Leipzig and Salzburg and is inspired by Red Bull. Provided, of course, that the negotiations surrounding a takeover of Man Utd come to a positive conclusion very quickly. (Gentlemen)
