Orlando Bloom joins the clamor of the Panamanians

Orlando Bloom, actor and environmental activist, has joined the clamor of Panamanians and is awaiting a ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice on unconstitutional lawsuits against Central America’s largest open-pit copper mine.

Before Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio attracted international attention by sharing six days ago on Instagram the mobilization of thousands of people demonstrating in defense of nature.

Bloom, for his part, published in his stories instagramwith more than 7.1 million followers, a petition asking the court to “Declare Now!”

The petition which started last November 17, aims to gain 35 thousand signatures and at the time of this publication, it already had 31,384.

“(…) We call on Supreme Court of Justice of Panama declare yourself unconstitutional controversial mining project in Donoso foresta rainforest protected by law,” the description of the petition reads.

There is a link in Bloom’s stories for anyone who wants to sign the petition.

Except, Greta Thunbergenvironmental activist and Swedish environmentalisthe also spoke out and published an announcement in which he emphasized that the future of the Donoška Forest is in the hands of the nine judges of the Court.

“Together with local and international organizations, we stand in solidarity with the people of Panama and urge the Supreme Court to reject the largest open-pit copper mine in Panama. Central America!”, stated in Thunberg’s post, which has more than 26,000 “likes” and more than 2,000 comments.

Finally, a few hours ago DiCaprio published another post in which he reiterated his support for those who are advocating for Panama to remain green.

Standing session

This November 24, the court began a permanent session to determine failure on actions of unconstitutionality against mining in Panama.
