Blast in Czech football! On Monday evening, Jaroslav Silhavy (62) and his team made it clear that they had qualified for the European Championships, and shortly afterwards he resigned voluntarily.
“Even though we are happy now, we decided before the match that we would not continue,” Silhavy explained after the match. Silhavy, who led the team to the quarter-finals at the last European Championship, has been under fire for some time due to his team’s poor performance.
The Czech Republic won just four of eight matches during the campaign, finishing second behind Albania in Group E. Silhavy took over the national team in 2018.
Before the decisive match against Moldova, the Czech team also caused a scandal when three regular players – Vladimir Coufal (West Ham), Jakub Brabec (Aris Saloniki) and Jan Kuchta (Sparta Prague) – spent the night from Saturday to Sunday in a discotheque. (SDA/dti)
