The World Cup in Engelberg has been high on the agenda of ski jumpers for more than four decades. There will be a premiere in mid-December; from December 15 to 17, the women will also jump over the Gross-Titlis ski jump. It is the first ever World Cup for women in Switzerland.
OK President Aregger hopes to establish women’s ski jumping in Switzerland. “The women deserve a strong competition calendar, because the sport has a future.” Because more athletes are now using the ski jump, the schedule had to be adjusted. The World Cup will now take place in three days instead of two as before.
If all goes well, Switzerland will also have two athletes at the start: the two young show jumpers Sina Arnet (18) and Emely Torazza (19). Arnet, who grew up in Engelberg and now goes to the gym there, can hardly wait to jump in front of the home crowd. ‘This is a dream come true. As kids we all built our own snow jumps, and the World Cup weekend was an absolute highlight.” The women will take action for the first time late on Friday evening. Ladies and gentlemen will be in action on Saturday and on Sunday the men’s jumping will be the final point of the World Cup in Engelberg.
