When the Laureus Foundation invites you to the Charity Night at the Zurich Congress Center, the sports stars line up on the blue carpet. From tennis star Martina Hingis to football expert Benjamin Huggel to swimmer Noè Ponti. Many of them are ambassadors and are committed to making sports accessible to all children.

This is especially important for foundation chairman Fabian Cancellara (42): “Sport is incredibly unifying. Unfortunately, even here in Switzerland, there are many children who do not have access to sports,” explains the former professional cyclist. Winter sports enthusiasts are somewhat underrepresented this Saturday evening. For example, freeskier Andri Ragettli (25) is one of the few who earns his living from skiing. Although he could also imagine another career: “I once ran a marathon in the summer. Easy for me. And when I did that, I ran a hundred miles.”

Stucki will no longer be a professional skier

However, wrestling king Christian Stucki (38) cannot imagine such a relaxed discipline change. Watching ski races on TV is a given. “The whole family actually sits in front of the TV.” But ski down the slopes yourself? Stucki immediately waves him away. He will certainly not become a ball lightning 2.0. “I’m just saying: Shoemaker, stick to your last!”

More skis
Matterhorn favorite Hintermann
“According to my weather app, there will be a lot more snow.”
Doubts increase after rejection
Does the Matterhorn descent have a future at all?
Experts aren’t betting on him
That is why Odermatt is an outsider on the “Gran Becca”.

For five-time Ironman winner Daniela Ryf (36), it is completely different: “My father was a mountain climber, so I was on skis for the first time when I was two years old and was fearless as a child.” She is now very happy that she has pursued a career as a triathlete. “I would be afraid to race down the slope at 120 kilometers per hour. But really carving in such a way that your legs burn is just great!”

However, former gymnast Giulia Steingruber (29) should return to basics. “It’s been way too long since I last skied or snowboarded!” Her goal for this winter is clear: she wants to brush up on her skills on the slopes.
