Girona can call itself leader of the Spanish championship again until Sunday evening. The surprise team from northeastern Catalonia currently has a three-point lead over Real Madrid after a 4-2 win at Osasuna.
Thanks in part to the goals of top scorer Artem Dowbyk and his Ukrainian compatriot Viktor Tsygankov, Girona once again hosted a shooting festival. With 29 goals so far, the club, which is only in its fourth season in the Premier League, has scored more times than any other team.
Coach Michel is considered the architect of success. The 47-year-old from Madrid has led Girona first to the top flight and then almost to the European Cup in the past two years.
