WTA final in Cancun: Sabalenka reaches the semi-finals without a fault

Aryna Sabalenka is the second semi-finalist at the WTA final in Cancun.

The Belarusian defeated Kazakh world number 4 Jelena Rybakina in three sets in a repeat of this year’s finals of the Australia Open and WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, California. The match was interrupted due to rain on Thursday when the score was 6:2, 3:5 from Sabalenka’s point of view.

Jessica Pegula, who was declared group winner after winning against the Belarusian and the Kazakh, remained without losing a set in her third singles match. The American, fifth in the rankings, defeated Maria Sakkari 6:3, 6:2. The Greek has climbed to number 9 in the world rankings after Czech Karolina Muchova withdrew due to injury. (SDA/dti)
